Privacy policy

Reckon is offline-first. Your training stays on your device — no advertising identifiers, no third-party trackers, and no account attached to what you do. Four things can leave: a Circle you choose to join, which goes to iCloud rather than to us; the app's check for a new version; measurements of how your answers land, sent with nothing attached to say who answered; and, only if you switch it on, a tag that groups your measurements together. The tag is the part you control, and switching it off deletes the tagged copy.

Where your training data lives

Levels, answer history, review schedule, streak and settings are stored in the app's local database, and scheduling and level changes are computed on the device. There is no sync and no backup: your training history does not leave your device, and we hold no copy of it. Deleting the app removes it. What we receive about answers (below) is a set of measurements about the questions — never your levels, your answer history or your schedule — so nothing we hold could rebuild a profile.

Sharing how your answers land

Reckon can be unfairly hard, and estimation is where that shows up most: an answer can be sensible and still be marked wrong because the accepted window was tighter than the question deserved. We cannot tell the difference between a question that is hard and a question that is mis-tuned without seeing how answers actually land, so Settings › Data & privacy carries a switch that shares those measurements with us.

For each answer you have already finished, we receive: which question you were asked (its skill, its level and the seed that generated it), whether it was accepted, how far off it was as a fraction of what the question would have accepted, which side of the answer it fell on, how long you took, and whether it was a review. Nothing else. There is no free-text field in the payload at all, so there is nowhere for a name or an address to appear even by accident.

That much is sent with nothing attached to say who answered. There is no identifier on it, so two batches from the same phone cannot be told from two batches from different phones, and there is nothing in it that could be traced back to you or joined up over time. We do not read or log the address it arrives from. Measurements like that are not personal data, and we would rather answer “is this question unfairly hard” from everybody than from the few who read this page and opted in.

The switch decides whether yours are tagged, not whether they are sent. Turn it on and your rows are grouped under a random identifier the app makes up for itself — not your Apple ID, not an advertising identifier, not shared with any other app — which lets us follow one learner's answers over time and tell a question that is unfairly hard from one that is simply new to them. Switch it off and the app forgets that identifier and asks us to delete everything stored under it; turning it back on later starts a new one, which cannot be joined to the old. The untagged measurements stay, because there is nothing in them to find and nothing to delete them by.

We use it to find questions that are unfairly hard, and for nothing else. It is never sold, never shared with a third party, and never used to build a profile of you — which it could not do, since it carries no levels, no history and nothing that identifies you.

If you create an account

Signing in with Apple returns an opaque, app-scoped user identifier and the name you choose to share. Reckon asks Apple for your name only — never your email address — and records both on your device, where they stay. They are not sent to us, we keep no account record anywhere, and signing in authorises nothing today: it does not move your training, and it cannot restore it on another phone. Because there is no account on our side, there is none for us to delete; signing out forgets it on the device, and deleting the app removes it.

The Circle

If you join a circle, the people in it see your first name or initials, how many sessions you completed this week, and when you beat one of your own records. They never see your levels, your accuracy, or which questions you missed. Leaving a circle removes your data from it immediately.

Payments

Reckon is free and there is nothing inside it to buy, so nothing is billed, no receipt reaches us and there is no subscription status for us to hold. If a paid tier is added later it will be sold through Apple, and Apple would then tell us only what you hold and whether it is still valid — never your payment details, which Apple does not pass to developers.

Your rights and contact

Because your training stays on your device and we hold no copy, there is nothing for us to hand over, correct or erase on request — deleting the app erases it, and that is entirely in your hands. If you switched on grouping, switching it off deletes the tagged copy; you can also ask us to delete it at the address below. The untagged measurements cannot be deleted on request for the same reason they are not personal data: there is nothing in them that says which are yours.

This page is versioned. Any change to what we collect updates the date above and the App Store privacy label in the same release.
